The above question asks whether Poker Table Tops are an affordable alternative for Poker Players in today's economic climate? And whether or not Poker Table Tops make the playing of Poker more accessible to general members of the public, the ordinary Poker player?

This question is not posed merely to promote the product of Poker Table Tops. It ponders if the affects of the recent / present Recession, which has resulted in growing unemployment, reductions in take home pay and subsequently disposable income and the limiting of individuals earning potential, has led to the playing of Poker in casinos to become an unaffordable luxury for many Poker Players.

In attempting to put forward some kind of rational and logical argument to the question that is posed by the title, one must first ask 'Who is the ordinary poker Player?'

According to eCOGRA (e Commerce On-line Gaming Regulation and Assurance) the typical on-line poker player was:

Male 73.8%
Age 26-35 (26.9%)
Play two to three times per week (26.8%)
Have played for two to three years (23.6%)
Play between one to two hours per session (33.3%)
Play one table (24.1%) or two tables (24%) at a time
Play both cash games and tournaments (34%)
Play at big blind levels of $0.50 to $2.00(US) (61.2%)
Play with 6-10% of their bankroll on the table at any one time (23%)
Claim that they are average in terms of skill
Feel that there is slightly more skill involved in poker than luck (31.9%)
Travel over 100 miles to play poker at least 2 times per year (38%)
52% Internet Poker players have a bachelors degree or higher
75% of those who did not and would not try internet gambling where married while 56% of internet gamblers were married
37% of casino goers gamble online as compared to 5% of the general population

The above statistics not only show the general make up of the ordinary Poker Player but also their playing habits. Granted the above statistics are applicable to the on-line Poker Player, however eCOGRA went on to state, "Most studies suggest that demographics of online gambling are broadly similar to those of the offline gambling population, with a spread of income, gender and education."

Given the ravages of the world wide Recession money has become a scare commodity and people are retreating from the high streets. With less money in people's pockets there is less money for people to spend to help boost the economy.

With any recession people are left to re-evaluate their finances. Usually their little luxuries in life are the first to be sacrificed in their home budget. These luxuries include those trips to the casino to play the great game of Poker. It isn't a free and desirable choice, it's a choice dictated by the effects of a failing economy.

Granted on-line Poker offers the ordinary Poker Players the opportunity to play the game but that, in my opinion is impersonal. For me there is nothing like the feel of playing Poker in a room, face to face with your opponents, yet being part of the camaraderie that exist between players.

One could purchase a Poker Table for his / her home. This provides one with the opportunity to reproduce that Casino feel without having to travel. However it does also provide some difficulties. Furthermore, the cost of a Poker Table could be anywhere in the region of $2000 but in these recessionary times the luxury of having $2000 spare is not one luxury many people have.

Another option is to avail oneself of the many manuals on-line that illustrate how to build a Poker Table for between $200 & $300. Unfortunately not everyone has the skills or the desire to build one.

Further to the above, not everyone has the room to store a full size Poker Table in their house. As a result of the Recession, many people have had to downsize on their homes. Be it through choice, enforced sale or by eviction, people have had to seriously curtail their living habits and lifestyles. This includes reducing the living area / space in which most of us live. A full size Poker Table may not be a practical option.

Here is why I believe Poker Table Tops allow the ordinary Poker Player to play Poker during the Recession: Poker Table Tops allow all players to enjoy the game with like minded people in the comfort of their own home without the burden of high cost and with an added bonus of convenience. The cost of Poker Table Tops is relatively cheap compared to other products. Some affordable options start at around just $29. At this low cost, one can still enjoy the face to face intensity of playing Poker, Octagonal or Rectangular shaped Poker Table Tops can fit up to 8 to 10 Poker players at any one time.

Unlike Poker Tables, Poker Table Tops are not bulky items, lay them anywhere on any surface and quickly prepare them for playing on, they are just as easy to store away. This allows one to recreate that casino feel without having to sacrifice much needed space in their home.

I do not profess to be an Academic on this topic. This piece is based on my opinion, an opinion formed by witnessing more people looking for cheaper and more sustainable ways of maintaining a lifestyle they had prior to the world wide Recession. In that I believe Poker Table Tops allow the ordinary Poker Player an opportunity to keep playing Poker in a truly competitive and fun atmosphere, while not having the added expenses that were incumbent when travelling to the casino during the good times.

Therefore, in answering the question posed by the title, 'Poker Table Tops - An easy way to play Poker during an economic recession?' I would answer 'Yes, in my opinion Poker Table Tops do indeed offer an easy way to play Poker during a recession.'

Poker is an interesting, and at times frustrating game. Winner can take home a big amount of money and losers can go home with only memories and dreams of "What If". Playing poker is a complex game which needs special skills to play. There are how-to books and online websites which help you to play poker. Poker is usually played in a casino by sitting around a large table with multiple players and the dealer. Patience and focus are needed to keep from being overwhelmed by the other players at the table.

The popularity of poker has exploded in the last 10 years, mostly due to television coverage of Texas Hold 'Em tournaments and the addition of poker tables as state and Indian-run casinos. The problem with televised tournaments is that the viewer gets to see all of the cards, sometimes leading to an exaggerated sense of poker knowledge. Don't be fooled; while looking like a simple game, poker is filled with strategy, cunning play and stress.

Can I Make Money Playing Poker?

There can be a lot of cash involved in this game. Some of the larger tournaments have hundreds of thousands, even millions, of dollars at stake. Even smaller casinos can have prizes in the thousands and players are willing and eager to pay the entry fee to get into the tournament to show their skills. Las Vegas is the best place in the world to play poker, thousands of people around the world come to this place for poker and some can go back home with millions of dollars in their pocket. Others of course go home with nothing. For every winner there are hundreds of losers and it is up to you to decide which you will be.

Before going all in at a Vegas casino you need to practice and learn how to play in a safer and less expensive atmosphere. Local tournaments and online poker are great training grounds for any player. The stakes are less (most online sites have free poker to let you get used to the game) and you get a chance to try different stratagies and really learn the game.

Online poker sites, especially the major ones, are great training grounds for you to get started. You can play at your own speed and level, control how much if any real money you wager and play at your convenience. Strategy guides and videos are also great learning tools and can be found online or at your local bookstore.

Poker is a great game, but you need to make sure you learn how to play correctly. Don't let TV poker tournaments fool you. Poker is a much harder game to win at when you can't see the other player's cards!

The most lucrative method of poker online strategy is to play using the intelligence of the game to gain an advantage or edge against your opponents. Experienced and professional players employ this method to increase their bankroll and win more often.

Choosing which style of play you wish to incorporate into your game to hone your poker online strategy and skills could be the difference between being a winning player and becoming a pokersite deposit junkie. This article will examine a method of poker online strategy to help improve your game.

Your Opponents

First, you must recognize what it is you are up against when you play online. Your primary opponent is the software itself, since typically, online-poker uses a large number of poker algorithms, software randomizers, and other methods that are NOT in use in a live game. Because of the software that can actually create draw-heavy boards and action inducing hands, you must choose your spots and adjust your poker online strategy even more carefully than you would in a in live game.

The other opponent that you are up against is the multitude of inexperienced and new players that do not understand the statistics, the odds, and the probability of the game. Therefore, your game must have a solid strategy in order to become successful. The lack of a good poker online strategy will inevitably cause you to lose quite a bit of money and of course put you on tilt!

Your Formula for Online Poker Strategy

When formulating a poker online strategy to improve your game, you want to try and take as many advantages as possible. Keeping in mind that true odds of the game are somewhat skewed by the pokersites software and randomization.

For example, in the case of pocket Aces losing to KJ offsuit will occur about 12% of the time in a live game. However, online, this same scenario (and odds) will not apply. The determination of KJ winning against the pocket Aces is decided by a sequential poker algorithm that is part of the software. In other words, it makes little difference as to the strength of your hand pre-flop; rather the deciding factor on whether you win or lose is based largely on those algorithms.

If you have spent many hours learning the odds and calculating your probabilities of winning with certain hands, that is excellent for your live game. However, it has little effect on the outcome in an online game. It is better to learn HOW poker algorithms work and add that into your poker online strategy in order to successfully win online.

In the world of online poker, sit n go tournaments have become very popular and are considered to be the optimum way to learn how to play poker, progress your game, and start to build your bankroll online. You can always enjoy the advantage of winning in sit n go's when you adapt the appropriate poker tournament strategy.

With sit n go's, you can enjoy an incomparable leisure game that will also provide profitability for the winning players. It offers a lot of fun and excitement as you have to be always in the game. The games usually last less than an hour, so you will have to make your bet and bluff at some stage. You will also encounter numerous 'all-ins' and when you are busted, you don't have to wait for several long hours for the next game to commence. You can sit and go literally.

If you're playing sit n go's at an early level, a good poker tournament strategy is to make survival of the game your main goal with acquiring as much chips as possible as your secondary goal. You have to play the hands that you only know, and play with moderate chips. As your primary goal is to survive the game, you have to make sure that you are playing with best cards. If you see that your stack of chips has diminished, you have to adjust your poker tournament strategy and play more prudently with the right timing.

In the middle level, you may loosen your style of playing a bit. You can use some aggression and create an image to your opponents of being a tight player. You can go steal the blinds, pushing with strong hands. But you have to be careful not to do too much aggression as you will have to survive.

Into the late level, you have to make wise use of your position. At this stage, you cannot afford to make small raises and you've got to push all-in. It will be better for you to be very aggressive at this point of the game. You just have to go on pushing.

When you are already assured that your cash position is secured, you have to switch your goal from survival to winning the game. Regardless how long or short your stack is, you just have to be super aggressive. Don't settle for anything less than first place.

In your poker tournament strategy, it is essential that you are able to play effectively well when your stack is at its largest. Your goal of winning can depend on how you effectively you were able to handle your game when you have the large stack of chips. Having majority of the chips will empower you to pressure your opponents without undergoing the same pressure yourself. You will be able to play loose when the poker table is tight, and you can be very tight when the table gets loose.

With an effective and workable poker tournament strategy, you can work your way to become a guaranteed winner in sit n go's.

Are you looking for a Texas holdem poker tournament strategy? One of the most important skill that all professional poker players have is the ability to read tells. Not having this ability is a disadvantage, and other players will be using it against you to improve their chances of winning.

Part 1: What is a tell?

A tell is generally a reaction that a player gives away that reveals some information about his or her hand. Reading tells is much easier in offline poker, for example, when your opponent looks at his chips when he sees his pocket cards, it might be a sign that he is thinking about betting with a good hand. Reading poker tells in online poker is harder, and very different from reading physical and facial reactions in offline poker.

Part 2: How Reading Tells is a great texas holdem poker tournament strategy In Online Poker

With online poker, reading poker tells of your opponents is no longer about looking at how they react physically, as that is not possible. Rather, you should concentrate on the way your opponent is playing, like his speed of play, and whether he is using any automatic buttons. For example, when a player has a very fast check, this could signal a weak bet, whereas quick bets on the turn or river might indicate a stronger hand. A pause followed by a check can indicate weakness, whereas a delay followed by a raise can indicate strength. If you constantly observe your opponents hands and whether they are using automatic play, you can sometimes see that your opponents have a pattern of play, which then makes it much easier to predict what they might be holding.

Conclusion about tells

Even though poker tells are not always accurate, I've found that they are usually good indicators to help me confirm what I had earlier suspected my opponents to be holding. Always observe your opponents for tells when playing. With that in mind, it is crucial that you do not settle into a pattern yourself, but mix your speed of play so that others cannot read you easily.

Are you fed up with constantly losing poker tournaments? You need these poker tournament strategies on how to easily win.

Don't you think it's weird that some players go most of their poker career just losing, again and again and again. They buy in to a tournament, and lose. And buy in, and lose. They throw all their money out the window by losing repeatedly.

I find these types of players quite funny actually. Because it is always the other guys lucky day. It is always the unlucky seat they got forced into. It is always the unlucky cards they get dealt. It's always something completely out of their control, and it is never their responsibility.

I think you know where I am going with this, so I'll leave it there.

After you have decided to take responsibility for your own success and commit to learn, practicing and mastering the art of poker, then you will start to become successful.

Poker Tournament Strategies On Winning Fast

The best way to start winning fast is to invest in books and courses that teach you how to play poker. Sure, you can get your hands on anything you can for free on the net and from friends, but it will be quicker and easier to just buy a top notch course or training.

When you read, learn and educate yourself on the game you become a much better poker player much faster. You can jump in a wormhole and shoot through to the future using this method. Don't be surprised when you are much better than all the people that used to beat you when you haven't even been playing that much, just reading and learning.

Poker Tournament Strategies On Winning Consistently

Now, if you want to continue to win consistently over a very long period of time and become the type of player that can never be beat then you will definitely need to practice.

Practice doesn't make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect. That's why you shouldn't just jump in and start practicing. First, read books and learn the correct way to play poker. Then practice. Got it?

By now I'm sure you are realizing that the best poker tournament strategies can't be found easily or cheaply. You are going to have the pay the price in either real money or in your own effort and time. If you want to save on money then spend years learning it the hard way. If you want to save of time, just spend some cash to get what you need.

With that being said though, I'm sure you are aware that you can learn quite a lot from free tips and tricks articles just like this one. That's why it is always a good idea to get yours hands on any free Texas Hold Em Poker tips you can. Staying 'in the scene of education' so to speak is like a bit of an insurance policy against yourself forgetting what you have learned. Or not finding out about the newest and best strategies. Staying on poker newsletter list and checking back to high quality blogs and websites is also a good way of doing this. Reading free books is maybe the best way too.

Are you angry you aren't winning tournaments? Use these poker tournament strategies tips to learn how to win now.

Even if you've just started playing poker tournaments or have been playing for a while, you, like me, will find these tips to be very useful for you. That's because they peel back the curtains on the easiest way to get more chips.

The fact of the matter is, there is some very incorrect misinformation floating around. Some of you may have heard it already and I just want to clear the air.

Common poker tournament strategy advice goes along the lines of this "Target the smaller stacks. It's easier to win. If you all-in and lose you aren't out. They have much worse odds than you. Target the smaller stacks. Target the short stacks."

I'm not denying that this advice is good in some ways. I in fact teach and advocate being wary of going all in against a bigger stack than you and it's better to go all in against a smaller stack than you. But I want to clear the air a bit more than this.

My Poker Tournament Strategies Tips For Targeting Players #1

First things first: do not target the small or short stacks. Target the average stacks. This is the most important thing you can take away from this article.

This is because an average stack player can afford to fold. If he doesn't have a good chance of winning he can fold and still have a chance of winning the tournament.

My Poker Tournament Strategies Tips For Targeting Players #2

Avoid playing extremely short stacks. These guys are so desperate they will play just about anyone with just about anything. You never ever know what a short stack has got if he has gone all in pre-flop.

My Poker Tournament Strategies Tips For Targeting Players #3

Stay out of the way of the big stacks as much as you can. These big guys will crush you if you even think about making the wrong move. Remember that the aim of the game is to stay in the tournament and not walk home a loser.

Now, I'm sure you a realizing how helpful these tips for targeting players are for you, and how you can use them to your advantage the next time you play a tournament.

And it doesn't matter what type of tournament you are playing; whether it's online or offline, a Sit N Go or not, or however big or small the buy is. No matter what you need to remember the fundamentals of targeting other players.

If you aren't yet experiencing the success you would like playing poker tournaments. If you aren't consistently winning and making good money winning tournament prizes this means you haven't educated yourself enough on how to win. The winners are always those that are more educated. That's why I urge you always take up any opportunity to learn more about Texas Hold Em poker, like tips and tricks, even if you have to buy it and especially if it's free.

Let's face it, playing poker is fun. The problem is, if you play long enough, but don't win, it isn't as fun anymore. The good news is, with some poker tournament strategy, it can become fun again, and bringing home more money than it cost you to play starts to make it big fun!

If you were like me and started to play for the fun of it, maybe purely in social situations, sometimes it cost you to play. And again, since it was social, you probably didn't mind much. Until you realized that the same people were bringing home the pots, but never you. Then you wondered why that is. After all, you had as much a chance at bringing home the winnings as they did. Or did you?

The more I played, and lost, the more I pondered this in my mind. How are these guys doing it? I mean, Lady Luck is handing out the cards and yeah maybe they know a bit more about when to bet, raise or fold, but for the most part every hand is different, with different players in at any given time, so how are these guys having any level of consistency? Yet they were.

After reading up on some of the Pros and really watching my friends closer it became a lot more obvious to me. My friends play poker like the Pros because they had a strategy. They had an overall strategy built on sound fundamentals every hand had! I couldn't believe it when this became clear to me. Then I thought, well why wouldn't they, this is a sport after all, and with every successful athlete there was a strategy. The key, I believed was that each player was still unique in their thinking and therefore their style unique as well. Similar to any Olympic athlete I suppose. Each competing athlete had sound fundamentals that the rules usually guided, but each one had their own flair if you will.

As I educated myself more on the fundamentals, I learned that there are distinct situations to make distinct kinds of moves. The Pros all know this and craft their overall strategy around it where openings in the play allowed them to be more aggressive or typical of their flair. I noticed this too in my friends and started to catch on to their "tells".

So, once I became serious about wanting to have more wins under my belt, the first two things became clear to me. Learn all the fundamentals of the game, then use that to craft my overall strategy, or flair!

Ok, got it. The Pros, and my friends apparently have these two things:

#1. Learn the game. I mean, everything there is about the rules there is to know, and..

#2. Actually have a strategy. Don't just play, pay attention. To everything and everyone! Seriously, this makes a big difference.

But, what is the Secret that I found that helped me to become a contender? Well, this is getting a bit long, so you'll have to wait 'til the next time, so see you then!

Poker is a game of skill, strategy, and luck. Today, there are more than 300,000 people that make a full-time living playing nothing but poker online. Do you know how they do that? It sure isn't cash games, they play something called a sit n go. Developing a poker tournament strategy to take down these sit and go's is something that you must do if you want to play poker online as a living. Many people work a horrible 9-5 job and are trying to find an escape from this job and work from the comfort of your own home. What better way to make a stable income playing your passion and favorite game.

Poker is one of the most exciting, adrenaline rushes ever, especially if you have lots of money riding on a single sit and go game. Now, when people jump to playing poker online, they make the mistake of playing cash games. Cash games go wrong for the following reasons:

1.	When you play cash games, you run the risk of losing your entire bankroll or your entire buy-in in one hand. Once you lose a bad beat, let's say you have AA the other player has QQ, the flop comes 4, 7, J rainbow. There is no chance of a flush draw or straight draw. He goes all in, you call...the turn comes 2 and the river comes Q. Player A takes down the pot of $651.23. You lose over 345 bucks in a single hand due to a suckout. Does this scenario sound familiar? It should because it definitely happens to the best of us. Poker is a game of bad beats, the secret to poker is being able to withstand these bad beats, recover and not go on tilt. The worst feeling in the world is going on tilt. You need to shut your computer off, step away, calm down, and not turn it back on for 2-3 days. That is the BEST way to recover from tilt. You do not want to keep depositing hundreds of dollars and play like an idiot. I see it every single day. AVOID CASH GAMES IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

Now, as you can see cash games are horrible because you risk your whole bankroll in a single hand. With sit and go's you can only lose a set amount which is the buy in of the tournament. You can also when some great money in a short period of time. The buy-in of a sit and go is as follows:

1st place = 50% of the overall total prize pool

2nd place =30% of the overall total prize pool

3rd place =20% of the overall total prize pool

When you are playing sit and go's you need to go after first place every time. Too many people make the mistake of just trying to make it into the money. Remember that 1st place victory is just like finishing 3rd place 3 times in a row. It is very valuable gunning after first place. Best of luck at the poker tables!

Sean Moronse is a professional online poker player. He has won numerous large tournaments and currently plays Sit-N-Go's for a living. Sean has created an award winning course on poker tournament strategy and Texas holdem strategy.

Some people think that winning poker is based on luck and chance, but this far from the truth. If good poker strategy is not involved in playing poker, why would the same professional players consistently rise to the top and cash in almost every time? It is important to go into a poker game with the right poker strategy in mind. If you keep in mind the 5 tips below while you are playing, you will immediately be able to improve your winning chances in online poker.

Poker Winning strategy #1: Learn to read the flop

Online poker moves at a much faster pace, and you need to be able to quickly scan the flop and determine the best possible hand. Learning to determine what are the possible combinations, and who may have hit or miss the flop altogether is a good poker strategy to have. It is highly recommended that you sit out a few rounds at a new table session to try and get a feel for the style of playing at the table.

Poker Winning strategy #2: Concentrate strong starting hands and table position

Many online poker players are very loose and get involved in too many pots and seeing too many flops with weak starting hands. One good poker strategy is to tighten up and wait for the right cards so that you can felt someone. You can possibly play marginal hands in a late position while there is no action in front of you.

Poker Winning strategy #3: Adapt to the speed of online poker

Online poker is obviously faster than real-life poker, and it is a good strategy to learnt to adjust to the faster pace. If you wait too long while the action is on you, your hand will automatically be folded and play will continue.

Poker Winning strategy #4: Avoid playing loosely online

Being a tighter and more disciplined player is a proven poker strategy that will make you a better player and take down more pots. Many super-loose players online try to see too many pots, and by tightening your play, you will take down those pots.

Poker Winning strategy #5: Look for tells

The final poker strategy is to learn to look for tells. There is a lot of information you can take note of about online players, in order to make the more correct decisions against them. For example, if you flop a pair and the table checks all around quickly, the players might be using the auto-check button thus signifying weakness. When a player takes a while to think before bringing his hand for a raise, learn to take note of that hand at the showdown. That way you can predict what he might have when he thinks for while before coming in for a raise again. You should also try to behave as unpredictable as possible while playing online poker.

Did you find this information useful? David Gardner is a professional poker player, and has a passion for playing poker for cash.
